From the courthouse lawn, Flathead Lake lay wide and calm, holding the Mission Mountains in its mirror. From a distance, it seemed utterly still — but those who know the water know it never stops moving. Currents shift beneath, stones turn, and life flows quietly on.
That balance — stillness above, movement below — is the same rhythm we find in craft. A finished bar of soap rests calmly in the hand, yet carries the slow work of infusion, the meeting of oils and lye, the quiet transformations of time.
At the Polson Courthouse Art Festival, we set our table among jewelers, painters, potters, and woodworkers. The day moved gently: a breeze lifting the awning, footsteps drifting between booths, voices rising and falling like small waves. Visitors paused to touch a carved surface, breathe in the faint herbal trace, or ask about the plants in each batch.
We shared the stories behind our bars — calendula and dandelion from our garden, wild herbs from Montana’s hills, oils steeped for weeks in glass jars until they deepen in color and scent. And in each conversation, we felt that same meeting of stillness and movement: a moment of connection, carrying the motion of seasons and the patience of mountains.
Thank you, Polson, for welcoming us into your summer’s rhythm. We’ll carry it until the lake reflects the mountains for us again next year.
